In this digital internet age if iPods, iPads, iTouch and iTunes some important things have gotten lost along the way. With everyone being able to Google what ever word or subject they desire and get immediate results, this has become a way of life for an entire generation, and sadly libraries are becoming the place their parents went to to get their research and they seem outdated to them. The Auraria Campus Library is a vital part of my college experience because it offers me a quiet place to study and do research for my assignments in a supportive and protective atmosphere.
...The library calls me, as it has ever since I can remember. That familiar book smell, the signature crinkle of plastic covered books opening and closing, the soft bleeping of the scanners checking them out, the polite hush. They all bring back nostalgic memories of my mother bringing the carload of kids and books to the library every month, without fail. Instead, I’m sitting on the second floor of the Auraria Campus library at a table overlooking the blooming interior courtyard. I can smell the musty, richness of the stacks to my right. I can see tables of hard-working students in front of me. I can hear hushed murmurs from the groups studying downstairs. This environment captures so much of the value of the library to a student like me.
...It is 7:34 in the morning. Today it is cool and the sun is shining allowing the day to begin. As I walk through the doors of the Auraria Library, I am welcomed with warm air rushing pass my face. I keep walking to computer area, sit there, and begin to read articles. By 8 am, I start reviewing class materials after I move to desk. I am looking around near my area and start to imagine how all of the tables near me will become occupied with students soon.
