Proxy Server FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What do I do when it asks for a name and ID number?

The proxy server doesn't seem to be working.

I can't get Internet Explorer 5.0 to work.

I can't get to the databases using AOL.

At the login screen, I get the error message: "Sorry, cannot locate patron record".

What do I do when it asks for a name & student ID?

The proxy server doesn't seem to be working.

  • AOL, Compuserve, Mac and/or MSN users make sure that you are using either Netscape or Internet Explorer browser and not an AOL or MSN browser.
  • If you had to configure your browser, double check the directions and make sure the appropriate boxes are checked and the URL is typed in correctly.
  • Javascript and Accept all cookies must be enabled on any browser.
  • Try another database. If other databases work, then just the one database is down. In case one database is down for more than several hours, please call 303-556-2791 or email: Distance Librarian.
  • If you have tried several databases and none work and you have checked everything, call 303-556-2791 or email the Distance Librarian.
  • If you previously configured your browser and are NOT a Mac, AOL or Compuserve user, then upgrade to the latest version of your browser and try it without configuring it.

I can't get Internet Explorer 5.0 to work.

  • IE 5.0 is an older browser. Upgrade to the latest version of IE and try it without configuring it.
  • If you have tried several databases and none work and you have checked everything, call 303-556-2791 or email the Distance Librarian.

I can't get to the databases using AOL.

  • The proxy server will not work with AOL software. You can still use the system, but you will need to download, configure, and use Netscape Navigator. Directions for this are on the Configure your browser page.

At the login screen, I get the error message: "Sorry, cannot locate patron record"

You must be in Auraria Library's patron file to use off-campus access. To verify you are in our database, check your patron record on Skyline

  • If you are not listed in our patron database and you think you should be, visit the Circulation Desk in the Library or call 303-556-2639.
  • If you live outside of the Denver Metro Area email the Distance Librarian.
  • If you are in the patron file, but still can't use the databases, please see if any of the questions and answers below can help. If you still have problems email the Distance Librarian.
