CIRCULATION SERVICES

Returns

Auraria Library materials can be returned at the Circulation desk or book drops located in the front and back of the building. Materials can be returned at other libraries via courier; however, Auraria Library does not assume responsibility for items which are lost or damaged in transit.

Renewals

Materials can be renewed in person, online or by phone by calling 303-556-2639. Materials with a hold, recall or materials over 28 days overdue cannot be renewed.

Missing Book Searches

If an item cannot be found on the shelf and is not checked out, the library staff at Circulation can place a missing hold and search for the item. If the item is located, it will be held for the requesting patron and a hold notice will be sent. If the item is not located, the patron will be notified and may try the Prospector Catalog or contact Interlibrary Loan to request the title from another library.

Holds

Auraria patrons may place holds on items that are checked out to another patron online, by phone, or in person. When the item is returned, a hold notice will be sent to the requesting patron. If you are searching in Skyline and want to place a hold on a checked out item, use the Request command in the web version or G command in text version to place the hold yourself. You will be asked for your name and ID number.

Recalls

Auraria students, faculty and staff may recall an item that is checked out by a graduate student or faculty/staff member for 60-90 days. The original borrower is given 28 days from the initial charge date before the recall due date is applied. A notice will be sent to the original borrower with the new due date. When the item is returned, a hold notice is sent to the requesting patron.

Library E-mail Notices

Library notices are sent in paper format but can now be received by e-mail. Lost book and fine notices will still be delivered in paper format. E-mail overdue and hold notices are faster than standard mail and help to conserve paper. Once you are set up, you can request that your books be renewed by e-mail and will receive an acknowledgment with your new due dates. Register for this service, in person, at the Circulation Desk.

It is important that patrons inform the library of any home, office or e-mail address changes. A change of e-mail address requires that another registration form be filled out, signed and turned into the Circulation Desk. Address changes cannot be done by phone or e-mail.

All notices, regardless of format, are considered a courtesy. Failure to receive a notice, for whatever reason, does not absolve responsibility to return or renew books on time nor does it negate any fines or charges that may occur. When you sign up for e-mail notices, it is your responsibility to check your e-mail.

OVERDUE ITEMS

Fines and Lost Book Charges

Fines on overdue items are 50 cents a day per item. Maximum fine for items over 28 days overdue is $20.00 per item.

Any item checked out longer than 28 days can be recalled by the library. A notice will be sent with a new due date.

An item is considered lost if it is 28 days overdue. Auraria Library lost book charges are a standard $125.00 or more per item to cover replacement and processing.

Prospector items follow local overdue and fine policies with the exception of lost book charges. Prospector lost book charges are $125.00 per item to cover replacement and processing.

Borrowing privileges will be suspended for overdue materials or fines over $10.00.

Please resolve any fines or lost book charges immediately. Colorado State Law mandates any debt owed a State agency must be referred to Central Collection Services for the State of Colorado within 30 days of becoming past due.
