HISTORICAL SKETCH_______

In the late 1940's the Colorado Council of Churches created within itself a Department of Migrant Ministry, which became affiliated with the Home Mission Council of North America, the Colorado Council of Church Women, and the Interdenominational Board of Church Women for the Rocky Mountain Region, to form the Colorado Migrant Committee, otherwise known as the "United Ministry to Migrants."

The purpose of this organization was (and continues to be) to carry religion to the migrant workers in Colorado. They had worship services, Sunday School, home visits, and counseling. They also provided character building activities, coaching in school subjects, health and safety education, music, skill, handicraft, games, English lessons, etc.

Some growers contributed financially to these endeavors, however, their total budget was small, rarely reaching more than a few hundred dollars.

A newsletter called "Western Harvest a United Ministry to Migrants" was published by the Western Area Home Missions Council of North America, along with other publications related to Migrants.
