MSS-001. Donald Sutherland Papers
A noted literary figure and University of Colorado classics professor,
Sutherland was a friend and colleague of many prominent writers. The
collection consists of his professional and personal correspondence,
photographs, art work, professional publications and writings and
memorabilia. Also included are materials relating to his father, an early
settler and politician in Alaska (1900-1930), and his father-in-law, Gaston
Save, a prominent regional French artist and historian (1844-1901).

MSS-002. Colorado Women's Conference Collection
This collection documents the first women's state conference held in the
U.S. in conjunction with the International Women's year of 1975. The
collection consists of the official conference files including minutes,
correspondence, reports, scrapbooks, memorabilia and video tapes.

MSS-003. Gaston Save Papers
This collection contains papers collected and written by Gaston Save,
a Prominent regional French artist and historian (1844-1901). *Note - all
the papers are written in French.

MSS-004. Lynn C. Martin Collection
Professor Lynn C. Martin's correspondence regarding the literary estate
of Donald Sutherland. Prof. Martin was named as the literary executor
of Sutherland's estate.

MSS-005. Albert S. Bowman Criminal Justice Collection
The collection consists of subject files on various law enforcement topics,
including management techniques, recruitment, budgeting, public attitudes,
job performance, penal and probation codes. Materials represent diverse
geographical areas in the United States and include some English law
enforcement reports.

MSS-006. Edgar Wahlberg Collection
Reverend Wahlberg was a prominent participant in labor and social issues
in Colorado for over twenty years (1930-1950). As a founding member of
the Colorado American Civil Liberties Union, an early supporter and
developer of Denver's city recreation program, and a United Nations Relief
and Rehabilitation Administration official in Greece and China, Wahlberg's
career was varied and multifaceted. This collection consists of professional
correspondence, speeches, presentations, sermons and publications,
photographs, scrapbooks and memorabilia. Also included are subject/issue
files created in daily activities. Oral interview.

MSS-007. Joseph McClelland Collection
McClelland, War Relocation Authority Reports Officer and camp photographer
of the Amache Relocation Center, was responsible for sending out press
releases to the media. The collection consists of a complete run of the
Granada Pioneer for the 1942-43 and various other publications concerning
Japanese Americans. Also included is a taped interview with Mr.
McClelland.

MSS-008. Lloyd Garrison Collection
Dr. Garrison was superintendent of Schools at the Amache Relocation
Center. This collection contains letters from internee students, copies of
yearbooks and student newspapers, various printed items produced by or
for Amache residents, and printed materials on Japanese-American
relocation. Also included are black and white identified photographs of
students at Amache and a taped interview with Mrs. Garrison.

MSS-009. Kathy Odum Collection
Mrs. Odum was a high school teacher, counselor and senior class sponsor
at the Amache Relocation Center High School, 1942-1945. Items in the
collection include publications by and for the high school students and
reports on Japanese-Americans in Colorado. Also included is a taped
interview with Mrs. Odum.

MSS-010. Ernest Tigges Collection
Tigges was the Farm Superintendent at the Amache War Relocation Center.
Items include his personnel records, wartime travel permission orders, a
name index of Center staff and internees, 1942-46, and taped interview.

MSS-011. John A. Carroll Papers
The Carroll Collection documents the public career of John A Carroll, U.S.
and Colorado Congressman and Senator and Denver District Attorney.
Materials include his correspondence, voting record, newspaper clippings,
campaign, speech and policy statement files. Additional files consist of
issue, constituent and military academy nominee files. Audio-visual material
and memorabilia complete the collection.

MSS-012. Legis/50 Collection
The Legis/50 group (organization formerly known as the Citizen's
Conference on State Legislatures) was founded in 1964 to improve the state
legislative process. A national, non-profit organization representing the
interest of business, universities, organized labor, agriculture, publishing
and other fields, Legis/50 strove to focus public attention on the important
role of the state legislatures and the need to generate support to
strengthen them. Relying primarily on governmental and foundation
funding, Legis/50 generated numerous studies and reports designed to
achieve its objectives. Legis/50, the Center for Legislative Improvement,
ceased business in 1980. The collection consists of complete organizational
minutes, most of its publications, selected topical files, press releases and
some correspondence.

MSS-013. Duncan/Stoddard Letters
A series of Civil War letters, which document the activities of Uselma
Duncan, who died at the Battle of Bull Run in 1861. Subsequent family
letters relate the search for his body.

MSS-014. Doris Banks Collection
Doris Banks was state Democratic committee chairperson in Colorado. This
collection documents committee activities through newspaper clippings,
voting registration records, campaign literature, platform statements and
memorabilia.

MSS-015. Colorado Chapter, American Institute of Planners Collection
This collection consists of the minutes of the Colorado Institute of
Planners, later known as the Colorado Chapter, American Institute of
Planners. Information includes group discussion of issues, financial data
of organization and membership lists.

MSS-016. Bertram Morris Collection
This collection consists of the scattered American Civil Liberties Union files
of Bertram Morris, a former Trustee of Colorado State colleges. Items
include agendas and minutes of the Boulder chapter of the ACLU,
correspondence with local, regional and national members, copies of
speeches and presentations given by ACLU members and issue statements.

MSS-017. Phillip Tigges Collection
These nine 9" x 7" mounted black and white photographs represent a
return trip by Mr. Tigges in the summer, 1982, to the Amache Relocation
Center where he had spent 3 years as a child in the early 1940s. Various
perspectives on roadways, foundations, plantings and are views are
recorded.

MSS-018. Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, Denver Branch Collection
This collection documents Denver Branch support for and participation in
local, national and international W.I.L.P.F. activities and events. Items
include chronologically arranged newspaper clippings, pamphlets,
brochures, broadsides, letters and cards, and several b/w photographs.

MSS-019. Colorado Council of Churches, Department
of Migrant Ministry Collection
This collection consists of a variety of files from the Colorado Council of
Churches, Dept. of Migrant Ministry including items from its Migrant Ministry,
along with related materials of the Home Mission Council of the National
Council of Churches. Specific items include minutes, letters, fiscal summaries,
pamphlets, newsletters and broadsides.

MSS-020. Willard E. Hawkins Collection
Hawkins was a Denver writer, editor and printer. His businesses included
the teaching of writing courses and manuscript criticism. Included in this
collection are monographs written by Hawkins and a journal edited by him,
Author and Journalist, 1916-1940.

MSS-021. Denver's War on Poverty, Inc. Papers
The Denver War on Poverty agency was charged with the responsibility of
developing and coordinating programs under the Economic Opportunity Act
of 1964. This collection consists of correspondence, clippings, reports and
pamphlets which belonged to a member of the Board of Directors of that
agency.

MSS-022. McCrary City Planning Documents Collection
Irvin McCrary was a Denver landscape architect and city planner who
collected materials related to his professional interests. Items in his
collection include city, street and transit plans of various U.S. cities, 1907-
1942, as well as several from English towns, 1913-1923. Also of note are
a variety of planning documents of Denver 1929-1941.

MSS-023. Colorado State Planning Commission Collection
The Planning Commission, founded in 1934, was charged with monitoring the
growth and development of the state of Colorado. This is a collection of
the Commission's minutes, 1934-1940, covering such issues as land use,
water conservation, zoning and erosion control.

MSS-024. Ninth Street Historic Park Collection
Historic Denver, Inc., a non-profit historic preservation group, worked to
preserve and restore a number of dwellings on 9th Street beginning in
1972. The process of placing 9th Street properties on the historic
register, restoring the dwellings themselves and researching the occupants
are all documented in this collection.

MSS-025. Auraria Relocation Collection
This small collection is comprised of documentation on the relocation
of families from the Auraria neighborhood in Denver, Colorado in
the early 1970's. That neighborhood, just west of downtown Denver, was
chosen as the site for a proposed college campus. Although there
were several protest by neighborhood residents, their homes were demolished
to make way for what is now known as the Auraria Higher Education Center.

MSS-026. Frank C. Abbott Research Notes Collection
This collection is comprised of the records collected by Mr. Frank C. Abbott
while doing research for his book "Auraria Higher Education Center:
How It Came To Be". This book on the planning, development and construction
of the Auraria campus in downtown Denver was published in 1999 by the
Aurari Higher Education Center.

MSS-027. Denver Landmark Preservation Commission Records Collection
This collection is comprised of the records of the Denver Landmark
Presevation Commission. These apaers have been donated to the
Auraria Library, Archives and Special Collections Department by two
commission members, Dr. Tom Noel and Dr. Stephen Leonard. These documents
have been donated to benefit Auraria students studying Denver history,
land use, urban planning, politics and government, and etc. While this
collection contains an extensive amount of material from the commission, it
is not the offical repository for the commissions records.

MSS-028. Melvin Whitsett Carter Collection
This collection is comprised of material donated to the Auraria Library
by the Melvin Whitsett Carter estate though the auspices of the Community
College of Denver Foundation. Carter was a long time Art faculty member
at CCD. He was a well known local artist, as well as an educator.
He was recognized for his landscape paintings and his pen and ink figure
sketches. The collection contains numerous sketchbooks, photograph
albums and sketchbooks.
