The Auraria Library is committed to achieving a margin of excellence
in book and journal collection, library technology, and service
to our library users. A margin of excellence is the distance that
separates our good Library from becoming a great and distinctive
one. To achieve our margin of excellence, we must develop financial
strength through private support and goes significantly beyond the
budget provided by the State of Colorado. Your gifts buy books,
journals, electronic databases, computer technology, and other essential
materials. they provide excellence in supporting learning and teaching
at all three Auraria Higher Education Center campus institutions.
BUILDING UPON OUR SOLID FOUNDATION
Our Library will build its financial strength upon a solid
foundation characterized by:
- a state of the art computer information system valued
at over one million dollars.
- a traditional of fiscal responsibility and prudent allocation
of resources. Our computer information system, for example,
was funded entirely through internal budgetary reallocations.
- a track record of directing financial donations to the
immediate benefit of our students and faculty.
- a library staff noted for their dedication to service
and innovation, as exemplified by the numerous local, state,
and national honors and awards.
Why Private Support is Essential
In spite of the solid foundation of Auraria Library, we cannot
achieve our margin of excellence without private support.
We face critical challenges, including: persistent 10% annual
price inflation for print journals and electronic resources;
state budget allocations that decrease in buying power by
5% or more each year; expensive computer hardware, software,
and networks that must be regularly upgraded; book and journal
collections too small to meet the growing information demands
of student and faculty, especially those in graduate studies;
a spartanly furnished and crowded library building.
