Come check out the Special Collections' August 2017 Ranches and Ranching in the American West Exhibit Showcase, located on the first floor of the library near the Lawrence Street Entrance.
Experience showcase pieces that paint a colorful image of ranches and ranching as part of the iconography of the American West, and the myth and romance of the 19th century. But behind the romance is the real reason for their existence which has always been livestock production.
Operated by generations of families as well as multi-national corporations, ranches are a mainstay of American and world agriculture, playing a critical role in the entire life of the U.S. economy. And today’s focus on “Locally Grown” provides increased impetus for mini ranching and farming operations.
