How can faculty schedule a library instruction
session for their class?
Link to our scheduling form at http://library.auraria.edu/calendar/schedule.php.
This page also links to other library instruction information
and services.
Can a faculty member bring their
students without scheduling a class?
Faculty can bring in their students at any time to use the
library resources or conduct their own tour. The classroom
lab (245) is reserved for formally scheduled library classes
where library personnel are present. We encourage you to
schedule a session with a librarian so that your students
can learn about all the available and latest resources.
These sessions can be customized to fit your individual
class needs.
May faculty schedule scavenger hunts
in the Library?
Scavenger hunts are strongly discouraged because they frequently
do not teach research skills. These assignments may cause
frustration and even produce damage to library collections.
We encourage library assignments that involve critical thinking
and teach good research skills. Library instructors will
be happy to work with faculty on developing such assignments
for your class.
What is Prospector? How do patrons
use it?
Prospector is a combined catalog of 23 major Colorado academic
and public libraries. Auraria patrons can request an item
that Auraria does not own or is currently checked out. With
a single search patrons can request books, CDs, DVDs, videos,
etc. and have them delivered to the Auraria Library Circulation
Department or their local library within a few days. Access
Prospector at:
http://prospector.coalliance.org/
or click on the Prospector button in Skyline. You will
be asked for your name and ID number when requesting items.
How is that different from ILL?
Prospector is very similar to ILL, but materials are requested
only from Colorado libraries. ILL can be used to request
materials throughout the United States. Please see our ILL
homepage for details at: http://library.cudenver.edu/aboutus/departments/ill.html
