Campus Recycling Update
[Auraria Update, Fall 2008, p. 7] The Auraria Higher Education Center recently announced a single stream recycling program for the Auraria Campus.
In April of 2008, a pilot program called Single Stream Recycling was introduced as a part of Auraria’s Sustainable Campus Program targeting high use areas including the Tivoli Student Union. The program has taken off. Collection containers are now larger and the frequency of pickups has increased.
The program expanded again on October 1 to the Central Classroom Building and Ninth Street Park Houses and plans to be Campus-wide by January 20, 2009 to coincide with the start of the spring semester. [more]

Music of Freedom an homage to George & Ira Gershwin

Turnhalle, Tivoli Student Union, Auraria Campus
An homage to George and Ira Gershwin.
Sixteen of Gershwin's most memorable songs
coordinated by Hazel Miller
performed by Sheryl Renee and other vocal artists
with American history intertwined.
There has long been a connection between the Jewish and Black American communities. The two cultures’ daily commerce and struggle for equality were always intertwined. As the two communities pushed for equality, a bond was forged that has been tested and tried for more than 200 years. "Music of Freedom" is an homage to George & Ira Gershwin for giving words and music to the American experience of cultural freedom. Talk-back follows both performances. Presented by The Mizel Museum in partnership with Black Swan Talent & Production.

Auraria Campus Crime Alert: Robbery
A robbery occurred on Monday, Nov. 3, 2008 at 6:45 p.m. in the area of 906 Curtis Street – the area is known as 9th Street Park/The Arts Building turn-around/adjacent to the Mercantile/Einstein’s Restaurant on the downtown Denver Auraria Campus.
A female student was walking in the area of Einstein’s carrying her books and papers, when she was approached by two black males, in their late 20s, wearing black-hooded sweatshirts with the lettering “Roxy” on the front and back. One of the males intentionally bumped into the victim causing her to drop her books, papers and wallet. One of the males picked up her wallet and both males ran away between the buildings in the area.
Please note that the student delayed reporting this particular incident, but Auraria Campus Police remind all students, faculty and staff to be on the alert for these suspects.
SUSPECT: The male who bumped into the student and stole her wallet was described as a black male, 5’9”, 170 lbs, with a half inch scar under his right eye.
The Auraria Campus Police Department is working in cooperation with Denver Police in this matter. If you have any information that might be helpful in this investigation, you are asked to contact the Auraria Campus Police Department at 303-556-5000.
REPORT SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY: If anything suspicious occurs or you are the victim of a crime on campus, immediately contact the Auraria Campus Police Department from any campus phone by dialing 9-1-1 or at 303-556-5000 from your cell phone. Resource Alert: GRLinker through Monday, Nov. 3, 2008
GR linker is our openURL resolver which creates/finds the links you see when you click on:
the free full text button.
Normally the linker uses the date of the article to distinguish whether or not the full text is available. [It compares the article date to the available dates and then displays only the available content, eliminating the false hits on issues in publisher blackout time periods.]
But this date function is not working right now and may not be restored until after the weekend.
This means that “Article Access” choices you'll see will probably start having a lot more false hits. Especially for newspaper articles and articles from journals (usually the expensive ones: legal, business and medical journals) that have blackout periods.
It will come back. Just keep it in mind. We apologize for the inconvenience.
