Find Books and other Materials

Start with Auraria Library's Home Page at: http://library.auraria.edu

Check Skyline, Auraria Library's online catalog
locate materials Auraria Library owns, including books, ebooks, videos, dvds. The "Databases A - Z" feature gives you added database links

Try Prospector if Auraria DOES NOT own the book

Prospector, a unified catalog of more than sixteen academic, public and special libraries in Colorado and Wyoming. Prospector will tell you which libraries own the item and allow your requests to be sent to Auraria Library. Pickup is at the Circulation (Checkout) Desk immediately to your right as you enter the Library.

If you have completed an unsuccessful search in Skyline, click on the Prospector button to repeat your search in Prospector. You may also ask at the Reference Desk for help in locating an item.

  Search Prospector

How fast is it ?

  • A Prospector item can be delivered to Auraria in 3-5 working days.
  • Notification is by first-class mail, unless you wish to be notified by e-mail. If so, you may ask Circulation to add your e-mail address to your library record.
  • Pickup is at the Check-Out Desk to your right as you enter the library.
  • You may also go to any Prospector Library and check out items.

You can search Prospector directly without going through Skyline, but if the Auraria Library catalog shows that the Auraria copy is AVAILABLE you won’t be able to order it via PROSPECTOR. If the Auraria item is missing or you cannot locate it, please ask at the Auraria Library Reference Desk.

Request to borrow it on Interlibrary loan (ILL) if you do NOT find the materials you are looking for in Prospector

ILL service is FREE for Auraria students, faculty and staff, and available for a fee for all other patrons.   The physical item will be delivered to Auraria Library for pickup.  ILL can take as little as 5 days or as much as several weeks, depending on the item and which library is loaning it.

Note: If the Auraria Library catalog shows that a copy is AVAILABLE you won’t be able to order it via ILL. If the item is missing or you cannot locate it, please ask your Reference Desk for help.

Tips for a successful ILL request!

  • Ensure that an Auraria copy is not available
  • Have the full citation ready
  • Allow time for the borrowing process
  • Make sure that your library account works
  • Ask a reference librarian if you need help

Requesting Journal Articles

The ILL process through the Auraria Library is easy. Auraria Library will e-mail you copies of (or links to) articles and documents that you request through ILL or through Prospector. Note: The ILL and Prospector processes only apply to materials that Auraria Library does NOT own. At the present time, if you are both at an inconvenient distance from the Library and want an article Auraria Library does own in some form, you need to request the article via an ILL service at a library near you.

Use WorldCat for ILL borrowing books from U.S. libraries.

Using WorldCat

Finding Books

Auraria Library does not mail out books, even in Colorado. The best way to obtain books not available at your local library is to request them via Prospector (if you are in Colorado) or use the ILL service at a library near you.
