Why save to disk?
Conserve paper and minimize waste.
Save as many articles and web pages as you like and review
later!
Keep necessary citation information for bibliographies.
To save/download
- Bring a disk or purchase a two-pack of disks for $.2.25
from the Copy Center located in the Library.
- Insert disk in the A: drive
- With the Web page or article displayed, click on File
from the Menu at the top of the screen.
- Click on Save As.
- In the pop-up box type in a name for the file or accept
the default filename.
- Choose to save as either Plain Text or HTML. (See * items
for more information.)
- Click on Save
*Saving as Plain Text will only save the words on
the page, and when opened some formatting may be lost and
margins may not line up properly.
*Saving as HTML will preserve the images, the layout
and the formatting. However, opening and viewing the file
requires either a Browser (like Microsoft Internet Explorer
or Netscape) or a word processor (like Microsoft Word 97)
that can open HTML files.
Tips for opening saved files
- Library workstations cannot be used, go to your computer
labs.
- With a word processor, when selecting files to open, be
sure to look in the A: drive for the file, and select the
appropriate file type, Text files or HTML files.
- With a Browser, go to the file menu and select open. Look
in the A: drive for the file.
E-mail is an alternative to Printing!
In general, you cannot "send a web page" by E-mail
from the workstations in the Library. E-mail can only be used
if the particular database supports that function. It is possible
to email articles and citations from: Expanded Academic
Index, General Businessfile, Periodical Abstracts,
Electric Library, ABI/Inform, Academic Universe
and Uncover
PDF files
Files that are in PDF format (using Adobe Acrobat) cannot
be sent by E-mail. |
