  1. Hi! Do you have some information about an article you need, but don’t know how to access it?
  2. Let’s pretend that a professor told you to look up an article in the journal Current Directions in Psychological Science. We know that the article was published in February 2008 and that it was featured on pages 16-20. Now let’s get started searching for this article!
  3. First, go to the Auraria Library homepage, where all your research starts! It’s http://library.auraria.edu.
  4. We’re going to use this search bar conveniently in the middle of the homepage. Since we know the title of the journal click on the Journal tab and then type the title into the search box: Current Directions in Psychological Science.
  5. We get two results. Since we are on the computer and we want an electronic copy of this article, let’s click on the second link that says Current Directions in Psychological Science Online.
  6. Now we are on the records page for the journal. Notice that the location is “Internet” and we can “Link to Full Text” right here. Click the link.
  7. This opens a new page. Notice that this journal is available from several links. Since our article was published in 2008, we want to make sure we click on a link that has articles from that year. So this third link is not a good choice because it only has articles from 1992 to 2005. Let’s click the first link because that covers articles published from 1992 through 2009.
  8. If you are off campus, you will have to type in your name and student ID number, just as they appear on your student id card.
  9. Ok, now we are in the electronic journal. Notice that there are a list of years on the right hand side. That’s how we are going to find our article! If you wanted to browse this journal or if you knew the author or title of an article, you could use the “Search within this publication.” Let’s click on 2008.
  10. Now we see a list of volumes with corresponding dates. Click on Volume 17, Issue 1. This issue was published in February 2008 and must contain the article that we are looking for.
  11. Here we see a list of all the articles published in this issue. We can tell that they go in order by looking at the page numbers. Let’s scroll down until we find the article that begins on page 16.
  12. Here it is! You can click on the title to read the abstract and find out more information about the article, or, you can just read it by clicking on PDF Fulltext.
  13. We found the article we were looking for!
  14. I suggest listening to the Subject Databases tutorial to find out how to search databases for articles on a specific topic. Searching subject specific databases is helpful when you are beginning your research and want to browse articles without knowing the author’s name, the title of the article, or what journal they are in.
  15. As always, come see us at the Research Help Desk, especially if you are getting frustrated with your research. Good luck and Happy Researching!
