Electronic books, or "ebooks," are entire books that have been scanned. You can read them on your computer whether you're inside the library or on the other side of the world. This tutorial will show you how to find and use ebooks that Auraria Library provides.

To find and use an ebook:

  1. Start from the Auraria Library homepage: http://ibrary.auraria.edu.
  2. Next, click on Skyline, the first link under Quick Links on the left hand side of the library’s homepage. This brings me to the keyword search screen in Skyline, our catalog.
  3. I want to find some ebooks on Jane Austen. So I’m going to type “Jane Austen” as my keywords and then, under the Material Type, I choose eBooks. Now let’s click Search.
  4. We get a list of results. Let’s click on “Jane Austen” by Robert Irvine. Notice that it has a call number and it’s available BUT it’s location is “Internet.” We know that it's it’s online and we don’t have to look for it on any shelves in the library. All ebooks will have “Internet” as their location.
  5. Let’s click on the link “Connect to Resource.” It links us to more information about the book and let’s us read it.
  6. Click on ebook Full Text on the left of the screen. Now we can look through the ebook page by page using these arrows or we can jump to a specific chapter in the book using the links in the Table of Contents on the left.
  7. We can also click on this icon on the top right to search for a word of phrase within this book. Let’s search for Emma. Now it’s showing us all of the places in the book where that word occurs and we can jump to any of those pages with a single click.
  8. Happy Researching! Remember that if you need more help, you can always ask a librarian.
