Transcript: Finding Articles in Full Text
- Have you ever been frustrated when a database gives you a list articles, but you can’t find the full text? I’m going to walk you through what you should do when you can’t find the full text.
- Let’s start from the library homepage: http://library.auraria.edu.
- Next, click on the link for “Databases A-Z.” I like to start my research by using Academic Search Premier Plus. Click on the second link under Multi Subject databases to get to Academic Search Premier Plus.
- Now we're in the database and ready to search for articles. I want to find information on boxing, so I’ll type my keyword in the top box.
- OK. Let’s look through the search results. I see that some of the results have links to PDF full text or HTML full text. I could click on these links and access the full text of that article.
- I also see some results don’t have the full text. Instead, they have the green 360 article link.
- Let's click on the 360 article link under the 5th result. This opens a new screen where we can see if Auraria has access to the article.
- Click on the Get Article link and you can see it brought us right to a pdf of the article. It wasn't available as a pdf in Academic Search Premier Plus, but we found it somewhere else!
- Now let's go back to our search results. I see a lot more results with full text. I’m going to click on the second page of results. Still more with full text. Now I’m going to click on result number 27, an article about female boxing.
- It brings me to the same screen as before, but this time we don’t see a Get Article link. Instead, we see that Auraria library does not subscribe to that journal electronically.
- In this case, if I really needed this article, I would click on this Interlibrary Loan link so it can be sent to me from another library. If you are requesting something for the first time, you will need to fill out a simple registration form. Interlibrary loan items usually take about a week to arrive, but it could be more or less. For more information on requesting articles through interlibrary loan, see the Interlibrary Loan tutorial.
- If you need any help finding the full text of articles, stop by and see us at the Research Help Desk. Happy Researching!
