Nina at Independence Pass

Web Design & Web 2.0

My job obviously requires a fair bit of this. Here are some samples of some designs and redesigns that I've done for Howard Community College, Georgetown University, and Auraria. I have become especially interested in the concept of user-centered design.

Federated Searching

Auraria Library recently implemented Serials Solutions' federated search product, 360 Search (formerly Central Search). This is my second go at implementing a federated search product; read about the first in volume 12 1/2 (a special double issue) of the journal Internet Reference Services Quarterly. This issue is also being released as a monograph under the title Federated Search: Solution or Setback for Online Library Services.

Wanna take it for a test drive? (If you're not an Auraria Campus patron, you'll be able to see the search and the results screen in action, but the proxy login will block you at the article link level.) Note: the results page will launch in another browser window.

Usability Testing

Included here are documents supporting usability tests done at Georgetown and at Auraria. The Auraria testing done in Fall 2006 is informing the redesign of our homepage, which launched on August 6th for the Fall 2007 semester. I also presented at the CAL (Colorado Association of Libraries) annual conference last fall on this topic. We're getting ready to do more in Spring 2008!
