AURARIA LIBRARY COURTYARDS

Here are some photos of the Auraria Library courtyards. By 2005, the courtyards had become neglected, overgrown, and sad. Staff, students, and community service volunteers weeded, pruned, and chopped. Others donated money for new flowers and plants.

Gardening Tip: Water newly planted flowers or vegetables with a solution of 1 cup drugstore hydrogen peroxide to 1 gal. water. Just as you might be given oxygen to help you recover from trauma, the oxygen in peroxide helps plants fight transplant shock.
Gardening Tip: For cheap, eco-friendly weed killer, pour cider vinegar into a spritzer bottle and spray weeds.
Take care not to spray valuable plants as this is a contact herbicide.
Courtyard Trees: Japanese Maple, Redbud, Rowanberry, Purple Smoke Tree, Golden Rain Tree
Gardening Tip: Save money on expensive rooting powders for cuttings. Enzymes in human saliva work just as well and the stuff is free. Spit on the cut end and then plant.
