Student Assistant VI (1 position)

The Collections Student Assistant will engage in activities related to collection development and management as well as other opportunities related to the day-to-day operations of a large academic library. This position could also be a paid internship, if coordinated with the student’s internship office. All library employees are expected to treat others with respect and dignity, and to be treated the same in return.

Job Duties

  • Write content for online news items to promote resources.
  • Create physical and online displays of resources about revolving around topics to promote the library’s collections.
  • Assist with the assessment of collections.
  • Process donations for quality and relevancy. · Withdraw or transfer material from collections.
  • Assist with the day-to-day management of the library’s game collection.
  • Deliver Research Help services across a large, complex, and rapidly changing information landscape. This includes providing support at the Ask Us Desk and chat.
  • Assist with any special projects for collection development as needed.
    •  Example of past projects:
      •  Researching scholarly publications from the three associated institutions
      • Recommending ebooks and books in specific subject areas.
      • Assessing book purchases for diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility importance.
      • Updating documentation of database vendors’ corporate practices.
      • Identifying grants relevant to academic library collections.

Minimum Qualifications (Please do not apply if you do not meet the following)

  • Enrolled in at least one credit hour in an American Library Association (ALA) accredited graduate program in Library Science or a graduate program in Education.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
  • Interest in academic librarianship, especially collection development and management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform without direct supervision except for infrequent occasions involving the most complex situations.
  • Work Study eligible

Schedule: 5-20 hours per week. Hours are flexible Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm.

Compensation: $22.00/hr.
