You can find most books on the second floor of the library. Special items such as reserves, skeletons, and laptops will be behind the Ask Us Desk. Check out materials from staff at the Ask Us Desk or at the self-checkout scanners near the library entrance.


You can renew materials through your library account, in person, over the phone at 303-315-7763, or by email. If another person has requested the item, you will not be able to renew.


You can return library materials to:

  • Staff at the Ask Us Desk
  • Outside library book drops located on the west and east sides of the library
  • Automated drop inside the library entrance


If you need an item that is checked out or you would like to have us hold an item for you to pick up, you can contact library staff by e-mail at or by calling 303-315-7763. You may receive the item more quickly by requesting an available copy through Prospector.

You will receive an email when the item is ready for you at the Ask Us Desk. We will hold it for you for 10 days.

Overdue Materials

We ask you to return library materials on time and in the condition in which they were borrowed. If you have overdue library items, your library access will be blocked (including access to online resources).

To help you manage your library materials, we send you email messages about upcoming due dates. These email messages are sent automatically to your school email account or the email address you provided at the time of library registration.

You can renew library materials within 15 days of the due date onlineby email, by phone, or at the Ask Us desk.

Failure to receive a notice for whatever reason does not absolve your responsibility to return or renew materials on time.


If Auraria Library material is lost or damaged while checked out to you, you must replace it with another copy. Contact to arrange replacement of lost or damaged items. Items that cannot be replaced are subject to a $125 fine.


Users who paid the standard replacement initial fine of $125.00 for lost material, then find and return the material within a 6 month period, will be entitled to receive a partial refund of $100.00. The $25.00 per item fine, plus any additional collection agency surcharges that were assessed, still apply and will not be refunded. Refunds for payments older than six months will not be considered.

Paying Fines

Payments are made at the Ask Us Desk by cash or check only. User accounts are cleared upon full payment of fines. If you have received a collections warning letter pay your account balances with Library Financial Services (303-315-7763). Colorado State Law (CRS 24-30-202,4) mandates that a debt owed a State Agency (Auraria Library) must be referred to Central Collection Services for the State of Colorado when becoming past due. Accounts that are sent to Central Collections for the State of Colorado must pay their balances with Central Collections.

Proxy Borrower

Auraria Campus faculty and staff may authorize a representative to check out materials on their behalf. Please submit the Proxy Borrower form to the Ask Us desk at the Auraria Library or via e-mail at Proxy borrower requests expire as indicated on the form and need to be renewed by the faculty or staff member to continue the service.
