Image of Lalo Delgado Poetry Festival

Did you know that April is National Poetry Month?  Arguably the most famous Denver poet is Abelardo “Lalo” Delgado (1931 – 2004).  You can find Lalo’s works of poetry at the Auraria Library. He was a major figure in the Chicano movement, both locally and nationally, in the 1960s and 1970s, and is widely regarded as “The Grandfather of Chicano and Chicana Poetry.”  He taught in the Chicano Studies Department at what was then called Metropolitan State College for 17 years, and was Denver’s very first Poet Laureate.  And be sure to attend the Lalo Delgado Poetry Festival held annually at Metropolitan State University of Denver.  Click here for information about the April 4, 2019 festival which is open to the public.
