Let's celebrate libraries and reading during the month of April!
The American Library Association (ALA) promotes libraries and reading during the month of April through special events. First, April is designated as School Library Month, a chance to celebrate school librarians and their programs. ALA also celebrates Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) in April, "a national month-long celebration of reading designed to remind folks of all ages to make reading a priority activity in their lives." April 12 is the official date of D.E.A.R. in honor of Beverly Cleary, the author of the Ramona Quimby books, as she introduced the idea of D.E.A.R. in "Ramona Quimby, Age 8." Additionally, April 6-12, 2025 is National Library Week, which was first sponsored in 1958 to "celebrate the contributions of our nation's libraries and librarians and to promote library use and support."
To celebrate reading and libraries, Auraria Library is highlighting resources about and for book lovers, literacy, and libraries.
