Overview

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Student Assistant II position performs a variety of duties related to the processing of Interlibrary Loan requests which facilitate the exchange of materials between libraries.  Abilities of the student include attention to detail, to work independently, and to understand the borrowing and lending workflow procedures (both clerical and technical).

Job Duties

  • Processing of Interlibrary Loan Requests.
  • Search for and retrieve the requested items (physically from second floor bookshelves, or electronically from databases)
  • Checking materials in and out.
  • Sending electronic documents.
  • Processing incoming mail and preparing outgoing mail.

Physical demands of the position

  • Bending, lifting, pushing fully loaded book carts, using library step stools, and frequently handling library materials up to 30 lbs.

Other

  • Assist with special projects as needed.

Schedule

  • 10 – 20 hours per week, flexible shifts between 9 AM – 4 PM Monday – Friday.

Compensation

  • $18.29 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrolled in at least three credit hours at the CU Denver, MSU Denver, or Community College of Denver
  • Must apply for a work-study award once offered and accepted position.
  • Work-Study Students: Undergraduate work-study students MUST be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours throughout a semester, including summer semesters.
  • Graduate work-study students: MUST be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours throughout a semester, including summer semesters (except in the case of students completing their thesis and/or dissertation credit during a single summer semester).
  • Students may still be eligible for hire if they are not awarded a work study award if the department’s budget permits.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous library experience.
  • Experience with online search engines.
  • Experience retrieving documents from academic library databases.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
  • General computer and online search engine use.
  • Critical thinking, problem solving, and decisional judgement when process may vary slightly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform independently and as part of a team.
