Job Overview

Ask Us Student Assistants provide high-quality customer service at the Auraria Library’s main service point. They serve as the face of the library for our users. Ask Us Student Assistants must perform a variety of tasks. These tasks include registering users, checking out and checking in of library materials, placing holds and requests for Prospector, and Pascal items. In addition, they promote a friendly, and welcoming atmosphere when conducting these activities. Additionally, Ask Us Student Assistants provide concierge services to Library users, communicating high quality information about and referrals to library and campus spaces and services. They also retrieve and file materials, perform data entry, and assist with maintaining a clean and useful facility. Students help clear the building and straighten-up public spaces.

Job Duties

  • Checking in and out items from various Auraria Library, Prospector, and Interlibrary Loan collections.
  • Maintaining an awareness of Library and campus resources and services to provide high-quality referrals.
  • Providing basic research assistance by helping patrons locate materials using our catalog and databases.
  • Retrieving books from the second floor.
  • Serving as the incoming call center for the Library and accurately answering or transferring callers.
  • Processing materials for Paging, Prospector, Reserves, ILL, RFID and missing book searches.
  • Emptying and processing materials from the book drop.
  • Help with minor computer questions.
  • Help patrons with printing issues.
  • Shelving, shelf reading, and inventory.
  • Stock printers with paper and contact IT when ink cartridges are low.
  • Straightening up and light cleaning of public spaces.
  • Assisting the Building Operations Coordinator with light furniture setup/takedown.

Schedule: 15 - 20 hours per week. Nights and Weekends.

Compensation: $17.29 per hour.

Start Date: Starting in January.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Enrolled in at least one credit at a higher education institution
  • Basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience providing quality customer service
  • Knowledge of campus resources and their locations
  • Previous library experience

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be willing and able to work nights and a weekend day.
  • Must be registered for Spring 2023 semester.
