Here’s one of our favorites:

Archives of Sexuality and Gender

What’s in it?

The collections offered in the Archives of Sexuality and Gender support the study of gender and sexuality and contain materials related to LGBTQ+ history and activism, cultural studies, psychology, health, political science, policy studies, and other related areas of research. This database includes the digitized contents of 32 archival collections, such as the ACT UP Los Angeles Records, the National Transgender Library Collection, and Periodicals from ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives. This growing archival program offers rich research opportunities across a wide span of human history.

Why should you use it?

June is Pride Month, and there’s no better time than now to explore LGBTQ+ history! Better yet, there is no better time to incorporate LGBTQ+ history and perspectives into your research. The interpretation of materials such as the ones found in this collection are what help us to understand the past, and Gale Cengage has provided instant access to these items for everybody at Auraria campus.

Who should use it?

The collections provide primary resources that span a wide range of academic disciplines, and can be used by students, faculty, or staff to perform original research. People who have a general interest in history, the LGBTQ+ community, or archives will also find many useful resources in this database.

Why use a database?

When you use a specific database, rather than a search engine or discovery tool, you often can find more relevant sources. For example, subject databases include sources about that subject only, rather than a general search engine or discovery tool that includes information about everything. This way you don’t have to wade through thousands of irrelevant results!
